VIA USB 2.0 VT 6212 PCI eating up CPU

I just installed my VT 6212 Pci USB 2.0 card. My processor in idle run about 80% usage, about 10C more on temp. I have my usb optical mouse pluged in and my media card reader, which driver and device is disabled because it will set constantly at 100% CPU usage. My seti@home took about 7 hours for unit, now setting at 3hrs for 15% of a unit. My 3dmark 2000 was 4612 marks now is 1473. I need some help on this one...becuase right now the only soultion I see is to take the card out and got back to usb 1.1.

VIA USB adapter cards are "stinky-poo". Return it for one of these:

Yep - and it costs more in the long run when you "bite" on a bogus offer like that.

Strange that with the same VIA USB 2.0 controller chip onboard (and of course still on the PCI bus), that kind of CPU usage is not seen - e.g. on the popular ECS K7S5Apro board.

Are you using the driver that came with the card? This is much more likely to be the culprit.

yep used it, windows generic usb controller, and VIA's newer driver. I have Tyan S1834 which has VIA Apollo Pro Chipset, and VIA usb 1.1 on board controller. I did some searchs to see if I could find any diffrent firmware versions but did not find any....which I can never find firmware it seems.

The instructions that came with the card said to let windows xp install auto. Though it had a driver for the Win XP on the disk it came with. I did both...it is a system killer....I now am getting temp 30C above my normal.

Try USB2.0 driver found within nForce drivers pack v2.45 (and not found in latest 3.13). Worked fine so far for every USB2.0 chip I've tried it on
I believe it's similar to the driver being installed with SP1, but haven't checked it yet ...

BTW - just noticed that there is an XP patch from MS for USB that specifically addresses problems such as where it "uses 80% of CPU." See Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 822603

I had to recently reinstall windows. I found out that the CPU usage is not eaten up by it till SP1 is installed....I worked fine before SP1
