STRANGE NOISES? PLEASE HELP!
I recently started having a problem with system on startup. When I turn on the computer it has sort of an erratic clicking noise after it counts up the memory, off and on until it gets into Windows95. Once in Win95 it keeps giving me a windows tone like when a download is complete. I hit ctrl-alt-del then cancel and it stops. Everything seems to work fine after that. If I just restart the computer without shutting it down it does not do this. Prior to this problem I had just downloaded and installed a Win95 Y2K fix, a Norton2000 BIOS test/fix and a game demo. I installed and ran Norton AntiVirus, but it found nothing. My ststem is an AMD K6-233 with 64MB. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Are you sure it's not just a noisy fan? The second fan I added to my heat sink makes a hell of a noise when it's cold, but it disappears when it warms up (except for the occasional sqweak).

Two places to start. First, take the case off so you can get close to the sound. A piece of PLASTIC tubing to your ear may help isolate the sound, keep moving it around until you find the source. (Remember the speaker tubes in Titanic?.- same idea)If you suspect your hard drive, disconnect the data lead and power up - it should be quiet and smooth since it is not seeking.
Good Luck...
