Bootup halts after memory test
On powering up a friend's computer (P200 MMX, 32 MB RAM, on-board graphics 4 MB and SB sound and Win95 oem as OS), it halts immediately after the memory test (registers 32 MB ok)and displays the message 'Wait...'. In order to proceed to recognition of Hard drive, CDROM drive and load windows, he needs to press any key on the keyboard. I have tried disabling Quick Boot in BIOS and 'unchecking' Enable 3D Hardware acceleration in DirectX setup, but neither resolved the problem.Any ideas, please?

I would read what his autoexec.bat says.
But I'd be willing to bet it's an IRQ conflict between the onboard video and the IDE.
Reset cmos for about 30 seconds with the box unplugged, remove the sound card and modem/nic card if he has them.
That's step 1

It couldn't be the autoexec.bat because that file isn't accessed until after the WAIT.... thing is over. It also still has to load command.com, config.sys, and other assorted stuff before autoexec.
