    Hard drive & Win 98

    Hello everybody!

There is no way to load Win 98 when my hard drive (a Samsung 560 mb recognized in the bios in normal mode...others don't work!) is connected to the system.
Beside, when loading in 'no fail mode' ( mode sans échec), Win 98 boots up without problems!
Can anyone tell me what is the problem? (And of course what is the solution! :-))
A friend of mine told me it was probably because of an UltraDMA mode on the HDD...but then how to turn it off?
Thanks for having read my bad English...

Did you mean you turned on DMA, afterwards the problem began?

You can turn off DMA from safe mode, by running REGEDIT.EXE. Click START, RUN, BROWSE, (go inside WINDOWS directory and click REGEDIT.EXE)

Go to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Enum\ESDI\GENERIC_IDE__DISK_TYP E47_\
Is there a child key under this entry, if so click it.

You want to find a string on the right that says DMACurrentlyUsed-change the value to 00. Reboot. This procedure turn off DMA in Windows.

If your problem is different, like Harddisk controller is not recognized properly, you need to provide the motherboard & other info so that people familiar with your situation can post help.
