    128 meg ram not work?

I just installed a 128 meg PC100 SDram DIMM in my FIC PA-2007. All it does is keep beeping when powered up. Works fine with SIMM's. Would that mean this DIMM is not compatible with this MB?

    Thanks

    Hi

No, they don't seem to be any kind of code. It just starts making 1 second beeps and keeps on until I turn it off. I went ahead and purchased what is supposed to be a 128 meg PC100 Sdram DIMM in case I go to another motherboard. The PA-2007 only does 75 mhz bus. It currently has 4- 16 meg SIMM's and they work perfectly. I removed the SIMM's and installed the DIMM and the beeps start and the monitor won't even synch. I tried the DIMM in the other socket and it did the same. I also tried to use the DIMM with two of the SIMM's. It booted and showed the 32 megs of SIMM's, but not the DIMM. When I entered the CMOS, the timings for the DIMM *did* show up even though they're not there when the DIMM is not installed.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Well it sounds to me like you have the wrong kind of RAM PC100 ram is to be used with the 440bx or better chipset it's made for the 100mhz bus sounds like you need to use 3.3v dimm

I thought the PC100 Sdram was supposed to backwardly compatible. Is it not? I guess I'll have to send it back. Thanks for the reply!

Had a similar problem installing 64meg sdram and it tested ok in the shop I bought it from took it home and looked closer when installing the ram and the motherboard was "flexing" under the dimm slots. I supported the motherboard with nonconducting material and re-installed the ram and no more problem! The ram wasn't making full contact for the full slot! Seems the best of times it is difficult to get at the slots so look closer. Have had similar problems with other motherboards and the "flex" is just in the nature of the beast. Anyway look a bit closer, the constant beeping is an indication of not seeing the ram. Been there a few times! The PC100 is backward compatible, at least with the 66 I run.

Hey, reguarding the PA2007 motherboards. Unless you update an early revision's bios it will not correctly reconize 64mb SDRAM's and up. I know of a good PA2007 site that I can send you if you want. BTW, PC100 ram is fully compatible with your PA2007 motherboard. It is only SDRAM that has been "certified" stable at 100mhz.

Thanks for the very helpful replies! I will check for the "flex" you mentioned, Oldbe. And DManly, I would really like the URL you mentioned. I do have the 1.2 revision with the latest bios, but am always looking for good information. Thanks again.
