Hard Drive "Locked"
What would cause a hard drive to refuse to create a "new folder" or stop an application from installing and give an error message such as "Cannot create default directory -intall aborted"
-
You may have too many files located in the root directory of C: drive. If you do, your drive will not allow you to add new folders, nor download anything new to it. I'm sorry...but I forget the actuall maximum files allowed... 500 something or 700 something. Check to see how many files are located on your see drive. If there are more than 500 or so, try moving some (pick unessential ones) out of the root directory temporarily to another folder.
Good Luck,

The maximum number of files in the root directory is 512.

Thank you Gentlemen you are absolutely correct - the client I was trying to help over the phone finally brought their pc to me where I found a few hundred FileXXXX.chk files created from scandisk that they had never deleted. Once they were gone - no problem...That was a new one for me....
