    hard drive problems.

    have old 486dx4 with 410 mb. Tryed to upgrade hard-drive to wd caviar 1.6 gig and now can not boot to c:\. Have a bootable disk in and proper boot sequence(a,C). Have award bios v.4.50g and plan to upgrade or flash the bios. old bios supported only that hard-drive. I am desperate and need Help!!!!

    I must have more information. Did the BIOS detect the drive? Which one is master/slave? Is the bootable drive partition set "active" with fdisk? Did you copy system files to the boot drive? Reply with that info and we'll take it from there.

    Fdisk must be on the boot disk - start fdisk and create a dos partition and make it active - Escape out and reboot making sure you have "format" on your boot disk - At "A" prompt type format c:/s and your c drive is now bootable remove boot disk and restart.
