The danger is that you may get all sorts of odd errors, misdiagnose them and then replace parts that don't need to be replaced. There's nothing worse than that in my book.

Sat. morning - Thought i'd add 2003 web server as a dual boot with XP on a Tyan Thunder K7 MP box and sit back to enjoy the Fa Cup semi final.

The footie is long finished - but the install is only coming right now.
    Long story short.
Server 2003 would not complete the OS boot.
    XP ran fine.
    Fiddle with Bios -
Fiddle with AMd chipset stuff -
    Fiddle with vga drivers -
Fiddle with Google - support etc.

The MBR was write protected in bios.
A tiny thing, but what chaos it can cause.

I was always told if you are using say norton antivirus then you should always leave the bios virus protection disabled as norton will take care of that and of course if flashing disable norton on startup as well.

Of course just last night I enabled it. Nothing so far on my NF7-S, but will disable it.

Bios settings are not a problem unless you forget to properly troubleshoot, on any client machine one must always start with the basic's -what is first thing that happens when you push the on button? You can never have too much protection.
