Dial-Up Server for Windows 98

Can someone explain to me what exactly this is? Will this allow another computer to access mine through a dial-up connection? If so, what are the limitations of such a connection? Can I use my computer at work, dial-in to my home computer, and use any program on my system? Windows help does a less than perfect (what else is new) job of explaining this.
I have a cable modem also, and know that I could use a program like WinGate to allow internet access, so my system would act as a server. But will Dial-Up Server actually allow this?

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to find out if your cable modem can support regular dial-in dial-out like a regular modem. If it does, then there are some applications that you can use to access your computer as if you were there.

Oh please! How could RG-58, i think it's that support analog phone calls? Unless you have a modem handy you are screwed, i have tried dial up server and it serves as a great tool for playing low speed modem quake games because the conenction is direct, and you use ipx for the network. Another way of remote acess is through tcp/ip -
1. Jot down your cable modem ip addy
2. Launch Carbon Copy, Laplink, or any other remote control software.
3. Go to work, sign on the internet
4. Start up a remote control software of the SAME KIND (laplink to laplink, CC to CC).
5. Enter in tcp/ip connection and the ip addy you want to connect to, click remote control or chat or file transfer.

I failed to mention that I have a USR 56K voice/fax/data modem also. I used to use it until I got the cable modem. Is there a way to use Dial-Up Networking from another Windows98 machine and connect to mine through Dial-Up Server for internet access? Is there anything I'm missing or will need to get this to work? I don't need to actually take control of my PC remotely, since I'll be wanting internet access while traveling.

Ah ha, i gotcha, you don't have a long distance isp and you want to dial in and remotely control your browser, the draw rate of your browser will be that of a slide show. However, i think the modem in your cable modem computer will somehow mess up your tcp/ip settings, maybe. But a fail proof way is to setup a proxy, put the modem in the proxy client dial into that, remote control it, and viola!
