    MotherBoard Combo help pls

Hi, I'm looking to buy a new Intel MotherBoard combo with ram, cpu, mobo. I going to use a Radeon 9200 video card, windows XP pro. I play PC games alot and looking to spend about $300-$400.
I was looking and a Pentium 4 2.4GHz 800fsb combo is kind of what I'm looking for but I'm not sure what kind to get for PC games. Plus I'm not to sure if 800fsb would even help?
    Thanks for the help

    Welcome to SysOpt!

The P4C (with FSB@800MHz) @ 2.4GHz is a good option if you're on a low budget and looking for Intel products. But the Radeon 9200 isn't, I'd either go for a Radeon 9600 if you game often. The ABIT IS7-E is a very good motherboard and costs less than 100$. Add 512MB of RAM and see if you didn't blow your budget

Get one of the recommended for the motherboard: http://www2.abit.com.tw/abitweb/webj..._Series/02.php; keep in mind that the P4C requires DDR400

Dun neglect your cooling as well. Get a case with good ventilation, front and rear fans.

A good psu is important as well. try to get a brand name one like antec / enermax

R u planning to overclock? you could get pc3500 RAM if u want to.
There's a description of system components at

Either buy a case and PSU combo directly from Antec (as I don't think Newegg sells them) or get a seperate case and a quality PSU. Fortron or Antec for a PSU. As for the case, you may or may not have to get fans for it, just make sure that if you need fans for it, or it doesn't come with enough for all slots that you get enough to fill all slots.

The only downer in the whole deal which will hurt your gaming is the ATI 9200 but that has already been said. It should last you long enough though until you can afford to replace it. If you aren't overclocking get the retail Intel 2.4C and use that heatsink as you really don't need an aftermarket heatsink unless your overclocking - also Zalman's are rather large and they make one that may be a problem with certain motherboards. Newegg was being hideously slow so I couldn't check and see if it was that one.

Yeah I understand my ATI 9200 is going to hurt my gaming. A while ago I had to return my Geforce4 and was left with no video card expect for my old Voodoo5 Which windows xp doesnt like, was a nightmare to find drivers to run most of all my programs. So I just said "screw it" and got a cheap video card deal i found. Video cards cost so much now I think I'm going to wait a while for an upgrade.
Yeah I'm looking to overclock my new system, I'm hoping to get the best bang for the buck to last for couple years. For best results on this newer motherboard for overclocking should I get 2.4c or 2.6c CPU? thanks

Don't get the IC7 MAX2, get the IS7-E, abot $60 difference and not much a performance difference, get a 2.8C P4 as the price is about the same as a 2.4/2.6, and we can all use more MHZ, also I don't think you need ther Corsair RAM, look at Crucial and Geil as they will save you BIG BUCKS
    P4 3.0Ghz
    512 DDR
    80 Gig
    GeFource Fx 5900
    Audigy 2 Platinum
    Creative 6.1 6600

    Whats not to love

I was looking at putting together a similar system myself.
However, I'm in a saving mode so i can by HD, video cards, cd drives and everything at once. So I'm not going to buy anything until I have all the cash and hopefully the cpu/mobo will be even cheaper at that point.

I was stuck on whether to get an ASUS P4P800 dlx. board or Abit AI7.
