Zone Alarm Pro and AVG 'Free Edition' seem to have done me good.

    ........nonsense.

There is nothing wrong with ZA Pro.

All software firewalls are basically the same. Some just have more features than others. They all perform the same core function which is to monitor inbound & outbound traffic. They ALL perform that task on an equal level.

Some people like Ford, others like Chevy, and yet again some prefer Dodge. That is what this debate really boils down to.

For AV I like AVG...if you have a smtp/pop3 email acct make sure you download the email scanner add on.

Their task is to monitor and stop incoming connections if dangerous. If you allow IE internet access with ZoneAlarm, any programs that hook IE can access the internet. With other firewalls (Kerio, Sygate) this hasnt been a problem. That is just one example of where ZAPro fails.

There is also the amount of incompatibilities i have seen. They arent exactly common, but not rare either. I was one of the people who had problems. It wrecked my IEs timeout setting. Also, while it was installed. 90% of programs couldnt access the internet properly, they would say it isnt connected. Disabling ZoneAlarm Pro didnt help; it still runs its monitor in the background. It took ages to uninstall too.

Thats like saying Windows 95 and 98 perform the same function (DOS GUI) therefor are the same and equal
