    Poll..cable vs DSL/actual speed

Who's using what???...I have cable and am pretty happy with the speed ( 1900+k download and 360k upload)...wanted to know what people are getting with thier cable or DSL connections..I found that a USB port cable modem bites but put this on a 10/100 NIC and it ROCKS!!!!!..lol

I have RoadRunner cable, and I used to get 500K to 750K most of the time (sometimes slower during peak times).

I had a modem problem a while back and they replaced my old 3com modem with a Motorola. Hadn't checked the speed since then, but I just checked it now and I'm getting an average of 2500K!! I Checked it a bunch of times on several different sites with results in the same range.

Cable here. It's the only way to fly!

Off peak hours I can usually hit just over 1MB/sec download (that's 8Mbit/sec). Even during peak hours I still see 300-500KBytes/sec (2400-4000Kbits/sec).

Upstream is capped at 128kbits/sec however. Sometimes that kinda blows, but usually it's no big deal.

I got 256k DSL. I just ran a speed test and got 369K down and 519K up. I personally wouldnt want to deal with peak hour problems that cable may have.

Road Runner here. Highest has been around 590 but average is about 250-300Kbps or
    995.1 kbps down.

Cable here. I used to get about 1200-3800 kbps. Now it's more consistant 1200-1800. Never as slow as DSL, though. Trust me, I've had both.

If you have DSL, think about making the switch. In my area, there is a money back guarantee on cable. Conversely, typically you must sign a 1 year contract w/ DSL. (Or at least this used to be the case.)

Who knows, you may even get really lucky. I have heard of 8mbit in some areas.

Sorry, I've never tested my upstream, I'm not nearly as concerned about it as down.

By the way... Is everybody tweaking their configurations for these speeds? Check out www.speedguide.com if not.

512/512 DSL, and that's what it gives, 24/7

I'm happy with it, any more would cost too much

DSL 768/256 Very consistant. with a total of 9 websites running out of my home I just couldnt do it with a 128 upload! 256 JUST barely cuts it. Looking into getting faster but carriers are dropping like flies and Cable is not an option in my area. and if they were they dont allow server services.

very cool...the folks at RR said I wouldn't gain much by switching from the USB port to the ethernet card...I only gained 1500k....lol..
I just checked again and got 1948...It's been VERY steady...lowest I get is around 1800k..
...My upload is even more constant...356 to 364k...24/7
when I was talking to there "helpless" line they told me they were capped in this area to 1200k down and 128k up...lol
...I lived 1 mile CLOSER to the hub and couldn't get either cable or DSL for another year at least...made it easier to move...hehehe
