    old hard drive

HI.im fixing a persons computer andi m having a little problem the computer (p3 600 128mb ram 10gb maxtor) was sooooo slow and i could not determine why i tried everything and then opted to reformat and reinstall windows ...after trying to reformat the drive it would hang ...ok so i zeroed it out and that woked fine and tried to reformat again...no go

is this hard drive toast i mean it worked before i tried to reformat it albeit really really slow (like 15 minutes for windows 98 to boot up in safe mode)

is it possible for a drive to die this way?? should i just tell this person he needs to buy a whole new drive?

thats what i think i zerod it out and it isnt formattting i guess hes gettin a little hard drive upgrade and this person owes me money so i think im going to get him to buy a 40 gig and ill just slip my old 20 gig in his pc and keep the 40 for myself..heh heh heh

edit ...on that note whats good software for copying the entire contents of my current hardrive to the new one so i can just put it in my pc and run it without reinstalling windows or anything

you can get maxblast or datalifeguard tools, etc. most manufacturer's include the software with the drive or at least have it available for download from their website.

if you don't like those programs, then get Ghost.
