Counter Strike/Steam Help Plz
I just bought Counter Strike today, was trying to play it on steam and everytime I try to join a server I get a timed out error, and when I do join a server my comp crashs, what could be wrong? My system info is on bottom. I am in the process of building a new comp.
System info:
Compaq Pressario
1ghz AMD Athlon
128MB Ram
8MB Savage4Video Card (How sad)
40gb Hard Drive
Running on cable
Thanks

I'd be tempted to say it was your video card.. but CS has never been a system hogging game. It's famous for it's ease on system resources. Are you running any firewalls? These could prevent you from connecting to a server.
Can you play the game on LAN? Or does it crash when the map loads up too? Need to establish whether this is a system error or internet related.

I'd come to sysopt rather than the CS community for help any day.

Ok, ill try their forum as well. I am running no firewalls, I just reformated that day I got the game so there shouldnt be anything inside my comp keeping it from working. I heard cs only needs a 2MB PCI video card, are there any updates I need other then steam to be able to play cs?

Steam provides the latest update (v1.6) when you install Steam. so no updates are required.. personnaly, I stayed with 1.5 to stay away from steam servers.. but whatever.
I would also suggestuninstalling and reinstalling the steam software and trying that... I'm assuming that you can play other games online, as well as just plain web browsing..

Yesterday, I received the same error when I join some servers. But the last sentence is KICKED. I'm still logging on and the servers can kick me out??
Is that possible??

Of course servers can kick you out.. for any number of reasons..
they could be full, your ip could have been flagged... etc etc..

But still logging on can result in kick??
I haven't even log in yet.
I'm still waiting for the yellow bar to complete.

Where could I get the 1.5 at? I went to www.counter-strike.net but they are lazy and told me to search for the problem , well since 1.5 worked for some of u all I might as well give it a try.
Thanks

I might have misunderstood what you're after, but CS 1.5 uses the WON network, as far as my knowledge goes ( I stopped playing CS a year ago ) is WON still even active? If not it may be a waste of time getting CS 1.5
Servers can kick you out before you've completely connected for a number of reasons, most times though it is when you haven't met certain paremeters, i.e your internet connection is giving you too much lag that the server will accept.
