PC tries to connect to the Internet
After doing some test installation of various software, whenever I try to run many programs, like opening windows explorer, etc. I get a window asking if I want to work offline or connect to the Internet. OS is 2K.
I tried to run msconfig to find out if there is some program started upon boot, but when I write the command line, I get message that the program (command) is not in the indicated directory.
Would appreciate your advise,

windows 2000 doesn't have msconfig built in, but you can download the one for xp.

I had the same problem but I tried spyware, adaware - didn't help
removed my network card and let ME detect it again - worked for me

What does ME mean?
I also ran Adware, eliminated the only item found, checked with msconfig start up applications, but did not work. Still have the problem.
What do you mean by ME? and forgive my ignorance.
Thanks,

Windows ME.
Try SpyBot instead of Adaware.

You might try cleaning the Registry to get rid of any orphan files that may be scattered around.

How many apps running in the background? See anything you don't recognize? Are you using ZoneAlarm - it's free and might also ID the culprit.

Pc is not connected to the Internet therefore have no firewall installed.
Will try with the hint on the lan card. Will also check processes running in the background.
