Help with MoBo & peripherals

Hey all

This post is in addition to one I made earlier in the Graphic Card section.

I recently received an ATI AGP 64MB Display Adapter. After plugging it in to my system, which includes one of those cheap built in graphics adapters, my monitor started right up and everything was fine.

However, after doing a fresh install of Windows XP Professional, I had some issues with the new card - namely the system was crashing non-routinely in Madden 2004.

Also, on a side note, my 3ComHomeConnect PCI card wasn't recognized at all by Windows. I then went to try a different PCI slot and my network card was noticed instantly.

Now, after playing around with some things in Bios, Windows sees so ATI card or 3Com Network Adapter.

I have a "PC Chips 810 Series" motherboard. I am not sure the specific model nor Bios version I am running.

Is there anyway I can find out which MB I have and what I may be able to do in Bios to get my two cards working again?

Did you un-install your old video drivers and disable the on-board video? You usually disable it in the BIOS or by a jumper on the MB. You should be able to find out what MB you have with AIDA32 - Personal System Information. Good luck!

Okay, I DL the litttle program a ran it... pretty cool, thanks!

So, it says that my MB is a PC Chips 810LR. I have tried to find the specific downloads I can get for my MB, but now am more confused as ever because there's all this "version x. yz" and stuff.

Does anyone know how I can have the AGP card override the built-in AGP graphic port?

BTW, Windows doesn't recognize either the Network card or the ATI card. So I am pretty sure it has to do with the Bios settings.

UPDATE:
I changed my 3Com HomeConnect Card to an available PCI slot and now it is recognized by Windows just fine.

Any thoughts on the graphics card?

If Aida32 doesn't tell you what PCB Version MB you have, can you look on the MB itself and see if you can find the PCB Version printed on it anywhere? If you find it, you can get the manual here. Just select which version MB you have.

Look in your BIOS for anything that says "Onboard Video" or "VGA" and see if you can disable it. Also, you should re-install the MB drivers for the MB CD (if you have one) because you said you did a "fresh install" so it could be a MB driver problem. Good luck!

Whenever I see the words PC Chips, the words "buy another motherboard" spring to mind.

Preferably an Asus, MSI, or Gigabyte board without onboard video.
