What do you think about McAfee Security Center

My folks just got a new Dell Dimension 4600C (specs irrelevant for this topic i think so i'll save myself the looking and typing) and it came with McAfee Security Center (includes VirusScan Online, Personal Firewall+, and some other stuff). My main concern is the effectiveness of the virus scan. I personally dont have any experience with McAfee and while i've certainly heard of them i dont know whether their product is effective or if I should tell my parents to look into something else in the way of virus protection.

What do you think? Any bad experiences with McAfee? Good?

    Thx

    linux

In my opinion, unless you're playing games, linux is the way to go. Mandrake 9.2 is the easiest to install and it comes with software for anything you need to do. Suse 9.0 comes with even more software. And there's only like 10 known viruses for linux. I'm not against Microsoft, their software is great for playing games. but linux is free and almost all software for it is free and easy to use (unlike some rumors).

but yeah. mcafee is up there with norton. I've had both, and they both kept viruses and trojans from gettin to me.

If your going to purchase AV software, I would recommend Norton AV over McAfee any day . There are some real good free AV's that are recommended around here also.
Don't forget a firewall, you need one these days.

McAfee is just as good as any.

Main difference between the major programs is the Interface.

I would not spend a penny for another AV.

However if you want the "thrill" of having two AVs, the following is a Free Excellent AV proggie.
