Radeon will only run multi screens in clone mode

Vid card - Asus radeon 9600XT

Driver version - 6.14.10.6404 (12-02-2003)

Problem - Using the DVI-VGA adaptor, I'm unable to get my 2 screens working in anything but clone mode.
Both screens work fine but I don't seem to be able to use them as a single double width desktop (2560x1024), they only work in clone mode which is pointless for me.

I'm about to go back to the drivers that came with the card instead of the latest ATI ones.

Any other suggestions?

I was just doing that with a 9800 on the 3.9's, you might try those. Also you might try getting drivers for your monitor if you don't have them or removing them if you have them.

Going back to the bundled drives (customized by asus) seemed to fix the problem, except that when I play a mouse based game like C&C Generals when I try to scroll the screen about with the mouse, the cursor will 'leave' the game and appear on the secondary screen. Very annoying if I have to turn of dual display whenever I want to play a game.
