fx5900 or other ati?
I was looking for a good video card to run half life 2, doom 3 and deus ex 2. I was looking at the fx5900 or the 9600xt or the 9700 non pro. Also, does pny still make fx5900s? and what is a cheap yet good brand for it with 2.2ns ram to overclock? Thx.

Go for the 9800 non pro or prio, it is a much better card then the 5900 as I have used both, and yes PNY still makes the 5900 ULTRA but I don't think the 5900
P4 3.0Ghz
512 DDR
80 Gig
GeFource Fx 5900
Audigy 2 Platinum
Creative 6.1 6600
Whats not to love

i was wondering if the 9700 pro is any good? Or if the xfx fx5900 is any good?

For the games you listed, the 9600XT and the 9700 would be a much better card than the vanilla 5900.
yo trick, why you so **** doofus?

They're both good cards... If I had to pick one it would be the 9700 Pro.

today, the ATi cards are better to the nvidia for the HL2
but you can wait for the DX9.1, maybe the nv cards *upgrade the performance...
9800Pro and 9700pro have good prices and good performance...
look (see or watch :s) that benchs

By the time HL2 comes out the 9600 xt and 9700 non-pro will be outdated. i suggest waiting till the game actually comes out and decide (by then these cards will be a lot cheaper).

I would have to agree with ice I would efinitely wait till theg ames come out before I upgraded my graphics card to be able to play them.

Deus EX 2 is already out. Reviews are saying it's pretty bad. It's Unreal 2 all over again.
BTW, Skatersak, you never mentioned what you have now.

Right now I have a geforce 3 ti200 with a p3 600@750. I have like 350 mb of pc133 ram and I just got new parts for a comp except for the video card. The new comp has 512mb 3200, p4 2.6gig with 800fsb, and a 160 gig hd.

Ok. I found a 9800np for $200 bucks at Comp USA. I think im going to get that. Does anyone think that this is better than the fx5900nu in the long run because nvidia is coming out with better drivers arent they? Oh yeah, are you supposed to install the cat drivers before you install the vid card or the other way around? Thx.

Vid card before the cat drivers. 200 for a 9800np is a good deal, and the np is a strong card you should be ahppy with it.

I think you'll be happy with either one. dx9.1 will supposedly improve geforce FX performance by a significant amount. so for the long run, it's hard to tell right now except that an AGP version of the nv40 is coming out in February or March so it may make these cards look a bit outdated.
