Liteon 4x DVD DUAL R/RW IDE BURNER

    Hey all,

Just been looking into getting a Liteon 4x DVD DUAL R/RW IDE BURNER,

Just a couple of questions tho....

What is the difference between DVD+R / DVD-R, i know that these are different types of media discs, but what is the difference, and why two different formats?

"Built-in SMART-BURN technology provides Buffer UnderRun"

    thats burn-proof right?

Also is the DVD-RW drive itself ne good?

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=52649

    I currently have a 16x10x40 LIte-on
    and a 16x DVD Lite-on,
and i havent yet had a major problem with them,

    Cheers

    Pete

DVD-R/RW was the first format that I believe was put out by Apple originally.

DVD+R/RW is the new format that has some better features.

There is still no standard so get a DVD +/- RW and you'll be all set.

    From another thread

    http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthre...&highlight=DVD

    To quote myself

Here's a little lesson, been meaning to put this into the forum for those who don't know. (also it's time to kill the speed myth)

"There is very little difference between DVD-R and DVD+R. They are used in exactly the same way. But you have to be careful with DVD-R because there are two standards for blank disks. The one to use is marked "DVD-R for General Use." The other is marked "DVD-R for Authoring," and it only works for mastering DVD video or data because its composition is different. This sort of DVD-R is not usually available to the general public."

    "[DVD] Write speed in +R and +RW mode is 2.4x, i.e. 3.324 MB/s." -Philips DVDRW228
    CD-R Write speed at 48x 7200 KB/s

    "*In referance to DVD* 4x, i.e., 5.54 MB/s in DVD-R mode and 2x (2.77 MB/s) in DVD-RW mode." - Pioneer DVR-A05
    Once again CD-R Write speed at 48x 7200 KB/s

"Never has the quality of blank disks been more important. No-name disks from Asia may cut prices, but above all, they cut quality. DVD recording absolutely must be done on good quality disks, and this means branded ones. "

    - from Tom's Hardware

    "15 minutes to fully record a high-speed 4.7 GB DVD-R" -Pioneer DVR-A05

    - from Pioneer

I just hope I never see another post saying wait untill DVD burners get faster.

    Peace out yo

I just got the +R Lite on DVD burner from best buy. it was a buslink in disguise...

    Paid 130, US$, plus a 30 dollar rebate...

It is a 4X...and burns a full DVD movie in about 14 minutes...fast enough for me.

8X are coming out...but, not sure how soon the media will be out...and, ouch...I'd hate to see the price on it.

But...that means 4X should drop a hair in price...he he....so, buy 'em up boys.

    A whole DVD in :15 ! Wow!

Seems just like yesterday we were unhappy with 650 mb CD's burned in :15min , had to have it in 5 then 3 min . Now we want 5g in less than 15min. Next, we'll want 9g in 5 min. Then, after that "Give it to me in a blink or less, baby!"

Its pretty amazing how fast things move along.

4X looks pretty good to me .

Yep...I backup all my pre-owned DVDs that I buy from our local video store.
When I travel or go on Vaca...I bring the copy....Who cares if you lose or damage a 1.00 to 1.50 DVD and jewel case...

Too bad it takes 2 to 3 times that long to analyze and encode it!!

I laughed...burned a CD for the first time in a while the other day. 3 minutes...

Then, took into consideration how much more data is going to a DVD.

No big deal...for the price and speed...I'm happy. When 8X DVD +\- R writers get to about 50 or 60 bucks...then, I'll jump ship.!!
