    Password protect win98

I'm fed up with me lads messing, last trick was to print screen my desktop, use it as a background and delete all me shortcuts. Little buggers.

Can I put a log on screen at boot up that will

prevent them going any further, not just press cancel and get in anyway

    or hide all me stuff.

    many thanks in advance.

    At least that was creative

As for the password, I think you will have to find a third party software

Check the BIOS. There should be a BIOS boot password available.

The only secure option is to lock the PC in a cabinet with a padlock.

And, for the record, that's one of the greatest end-user gags around.

I still actually do that a few times a year just to have some fun at work, and to remind people NOT to leave their workstations unlocked when they get up. The only drawback is that, since I'd give it away as I can't keep a straight face, I don't stay around to see the fun when they return to their desks.

Unfortunately, Win98 isn't all that secure when it comes to networking. Even a Novell client can be bypassed by simply popping out the network cable.

You can try THIS, though I've not personally done it so I can't vouch for it's validity.

So many clients who still exist on 98 find it annoying when they offer me their password to log in and I say "don't need it" and press the "esc." key.

Try This Jammer We use this on Windows 98 and 2000 machines it is easier to lock the screen just by clicking a shortcut. You can have it start with windows if you want.

You can try using WinLock software for guest users with very limited access rights and when you want to use the PC, you can reboot into admin mode with full access.

I put a password on my BIOS and on my screensaver when i had windows 98. To make it easier to lock the comp, i put a shortcut on my desktop to the screensaver
