    Call of Duty problems

I just bought call of duty, and it is giving me alot of problems.
When i start the first mission i get tons of artifacts and then the game stops working.

    my system specs are:
    barton 2500
    a7n8x deluxe
    512 corsair ram
    9600 pro

Should i try to uninstall and start over?
Is there some patch i need?

btw, neither vid card or cpu are overclocked at the moment.

    thanks.

It is a helluva stressor on both the cpu and vid card, though everything points to the video card. First off I'd try running the game with the catalyst 3.7 drivers, if that fails then I'd contact the reseller of the card or company that makes it for an RMA if that didn't fix the problem as it sounds like the card you have is on the verge of crapping out in the ram dept. Btw, what brand of card?

Hmm.. I opt for the uninstall and reinstall option..

    I have a 1800+ oc'ed to 1.9Ghz, 512 generic DDR and a GeForce FX5200, and I've had no problems whatsoever running CoD..

And I havent had to use any patch either.. Game runs nice and smooth for me!!

Try a clean install and let us know!!

ATI released this hotfix to specifically address a system crash bug that can occur while playing Call of Duty with ATI's Catalyst v3.8 or v3.9 drivers and a Radeon 9500, 9600, 9700, or 9800 series card.

So did you try the fix?

I run CoD with a Radeon 9500 modded to 9700 without problem. Initially I had artifacts and tearing with Catalyst 3.7.

Yeah, i got the fix. Now at least i can play, no freezing, but it still looks like ****, and has lots of artifacts.
I have had a few other problems with the system lately, so im just going to reinstall windows. Its been a while anyway.

If that doesn't fix it, I'd RMA it.

Just finished my windows re-install, and just loaded the game up with all the same problems. I just dont get it. unreal tournament 2003 and other games work just fine with this card. Any other suggestion?
Aslo, could I still try to RMA the card after about a half a year?
Is it a pain to go through the process with newegg?

I was doing some searching and found that turning off the fast write in the smart gart tab of my video card properties seems to fix the problems. Will there be any negative effects to turning this off?

Nope, most people with ATI recommend it to be turned off and by default, when the ATI control panel is installed, it is turned off
    Enjoy playing CoD!
