i have intalled on my computer 1 gig of Samsung PC2100 DDR RAM, 2x512. Up until about 20 min ago, both chips were working just fine, now my BIOS is beeping like a banshee with a memory error... i have tried rebooting, i have tried resetting the memory sticks, i have tried switching the slot for each stick, i have even tried one chip at a time... NOTHING works, seriously guys i am going completely crazy with my comp, do i have to buy new memory or what??? i mean each chip was working fine for the past 5 months

try running memtest on the ram from a floppy
although you may need the deluxe version to run
on floppy but doa search on the net and find one
if you have internet access on another machine
or can run your current machine on the old ram?
does it beep with the old ram in?
http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html
sounds bad though - duff memory
what is your motherboard spec
have you setup bios settings correctly?

Do you have video? Does it boot right into Windows?
Check the fans on your vid card and especially the HSF and make sure that each is seated properly. A dislodged CPU can cause incessant beeping.

With Omendata there. Post your sys spec and OS.
If it's Win9X/Me don't sweat there's no big problem.

I always use crucial.
At least your system was actually beeping - start worrying when it doesnt beep at all and no video!
1gb memory no swapfile.
See my system fly!
Crikey its so fast it just flew out the window....
Bummer.....
Guest Compooter's bad luck has rubbed off on me - DUH!

Caustic, never give up man. I may be able to help.
What BIOS do you have?
Does it beep continuosly or is there a pattern to the beeps?
Listen carefully and write it down.
For instance, 1 low beep, then 3 quick higher beeps followed by another set of beeps and could be as many as 8 beeps per set in 4 sets. ie.. 1-3-3-8 there will be a short pause between sets.
The first set will usually have 1 or 2 beeps only. I know it's crazy but it makes perfect sense. A good quality BIOS will beep at you when there is a fatal error. And by fatal I mean something that prevents the system from initializing the video at which time it would print out a message to the screen. If it is beeping in a repeating pattern all you have to do is just listen and it will tell you where it hurts. I have an error code collection including beep codes for Phoenix, AMI, Award, Microid Research and IBM. Tell me where it hurts my friend and I will see what I can do.
Got to go I'll check back a little later. Hope this helps.
Rockin Remus will return.
