    Maxtor HDD DMA Problems

The server I am running is a Pentium III 1GHz, DFI CS62-TC (http://www.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_pro...GORY_TYPE=null) motherbaord with all the latest updates, 512Mb RAM and a 40Gb Maxtor HD. The hard drive will no go to DMA mode, therefore the computer is very sluggish, the BIOS says its ATA133 and so does Maxtors website, I also tried new cables. In event viewer I used to get:

The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I applied the hotfix for article 817472 on the Microsoft website but that did not help. Anyone have a suggestions.

Also, I just checked on the motherboard link that you gave.

It says that you have a ata100 supported ide controller.

and you say that the BIOS detects ata133, how come?

I had similar problem with a maxtor hdd and 815e mobo once, it was solved by a ata 133 promise controller card, though in your case it could be different.

Although they should be backward compatible.

Try installin the Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver now called as Intel Application Accelerator and c if that helps.

    click below for that.

    -The OS is Windows 2003
    -I will try Powermax next
-Intel Application Accelerator won't work on Windows 2003 unfortunatly
-The board recongizes ATA133 with the latest BIOS updates

so it was some kind of incompatibility or a bug with 2k3...may be a later service pack would have fixed it.

Had I gotten here earlier, I would have suggested setting BIOS to Auto while still on 2003. Something to try for next time.
