Motors usually have a safety cut-out to prevent motor burn out if they are overloaded. Try taking the cowling off the back end to see if anything is catching anywhere! If it runs with belts or gears, make sure they are aligned properly, and not too tight!

Funny ...I wouldn't have taken you as a member of the aristocracy!

Kids been makin' it go up and down and possbly going for a ride on it? Try hooking the motor directly to the power source for testing purposes. Also, if you have an obstacle sensor for the door, make sure it's lined up proper and nuthin is in the way

    it could be the alignment

hang the heavier ( eastwood ) kid off the high side and the lighter ( oliver twist look-alike ) off the low side

oh oh - have to beware smack up the head from the gentler sex

They have safety cutouts in case of overload or over travel. The torque limiters or the travel limiters maybe out of adjustment. In most cases the gears go bad from abuse or use. If you can disengage the door , and opener works , then the gears are bad.
