    kernel panic

    I get this message all the time. I just can't boot linux at all.

    Until today, I'd got linux beyond 1024 cilynders limit, but now I don't know what's going on.

    First partitiion -> win (4 Gb)
    Second partition -> linux (3 Gb)

    BOTH as primary
    Then it's the limit of 1024 cil.
    Third part -> Linux Swap

    Any comment?

    What version of Linux are you using?

    I have a 60GB drive with Windows XP, and a 10 GB drive with Linux. The Linux drive is divided 9.5 GB Linux ext3 and .5 GB swap. I do not have a limitation on my drive size. I use Mandrake 9.1 and previously Redhat 6 with a 6 GB drive. Linux loads my XP partition read-only perfectly.

    I guess my point is that most recent Linux version can support large drive with no problem. I am not sure what you may be experienceing issues with as I have never seen this limitation.

    I don't think both partitions should be primary. Let the Windows partition be the primary and for Linux, use ext2 or ext3.

    I use RedHat 7.1 and it do have to be installed on a primary partition (or unless that's case with other OSes like win 9.x)

    I put linux disk in other computer and just says that I must press a key to reboot.

    this problem is related to the mobo and its bios, no with Linux.

    Why did you add a post to a nearly 5 year old thread?
