Lose mouse control during on-line play.

Here's my system. AMD 1700XP, Dragon ultraplatinum KT333, 512 DDR HyperXtreme memory, 2-80gig HD in 0+1 raid config. Geforce4 TI4200, Windows XP pro. Micro innovations optical mouse. I have Earthlink broadband connection. I only play Unreal Tournament ( "I always say this..hehehehe" ) on-line. So I don't have to worry if my set-up can tackle the latest game. This game is about 2 years or older. I know my system can play it with ease! However, recently while I was battling some opponents. I lost mouse control. That is, my soldiers view was up and spinning out of control. My weapons were also cycling quickly. I let go of the mouse and my controls were still out of control. My view would change from looking up to looking down. Even getting killed on-line was not a help to me. It was not until I pressed ALT+Ctrl+delete that I saw my entire desktop and browser windows flash intermittantly off and on. Really wild stuff here if your buzzing! I reset my pc and rebooted. I still lose control of my soldier ingame at times. The flashing of my desktop still occurs too. This does not happen when I'm not playing online. I've been playing this game on this pc for over a year now. And I never expereinced this before. I used a compressed can of air to clean the mouse but it's not really all too dirty. I keep my keyboard and mouse covered when I'm at work and away from my pc. However, I do keep my pc on 24/7 most of the time. Recently I've been shutting it down though. The only thing that I did recently was I downloaded a update from Microsoft and DirectX9. A few days later these problems appeared. Other than those downloads, I've done nothing new to my pc. Shutting down my pc has allowed me to play a little longer before I lose control. Than there are those times that I "almost" lose mouse control or my soldier walks at an angle before hitting a wall or something and I can't control him or the weaponry. I need to have him killed ingame before I can gain control again. Does anyone have any solutions? Thanks.

I used to get that with mice in Quake 3. It usually meant that the mouse was dying. If you have another USB input device (mouse, joystick, gamepad), disconnect it while playing. Load new drivers too.
