    E-Mail Notifier

This is an odd question...I run Win98 with a cable modem. I use Outlook Express and it checks for mail every minute. My fiance uses Netscape and it also checks for mail every minute. I use Oulook at work, but I really don't like it all that much, although it seems to have a constant connection to the e-mail server and is "always" checking for new mail.

    Here's what I'm looking for...
I want a program that will not have to be open and running at the time (is something built in to Win98 for this) that will stay connected to the mail server and alert me when I receive a message. When the computer is not in use maybe pop up some sort of screen saver like a big picture of an envelope or a big spinning 'e' or something (not an audio clip) to notify me of mail? Is there anything out there like that at all? I always just thought that Win98, with it's "intergrated web" capabilities would have something like that.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Open up Outlook Express, go to Tools/Options...right there under "General", first setting is "Check for mail every [ ] minutes." Set it to something more than 1.

    Problem sovled.

Go to: www.pcmag.com, click on "Free Utilities" on the left side. Then download the program "Mail Call". The file is a zip file. You will then need pkunzip or winzip to unzip the flie.

    Hey tantone -

NoNags has lots of free email utils also.

    http://www.nonags.com/

Go to the site and pick the mirror nearest you, then go to email tools and utilities.

    Good luck!
