Mobo troubleshoot: abit kt7a amd 1.2 tbird

I have an Abit KT7A mobo that I have used for several years.
Also, an AMD 1.2 Ghz chip, which I have used with the mb for the entire time.
RAM is ?? brand, but two chips and I have alternated to check to see if 1 is bad. I do not suspect the RAM.

The computer will turn on, and lights show on mobo. Nothing shows to screen, but I do not suspect video card as I have changed out 2 types. No beeps, nothing from the motherboard.
    The fan runs.
I have removed all cards and ide cables, tested 2 video cards, 2 mem chips, but have no way of checking the chip. I suspect either the mb or the cpu, but not sure which. I don't want to buy one, to find out it is the other, as I would have to buy both parts and would rather build a new system. Is there a way to validate which is bad without my buying a new part. I do not have an alternate mb or cpu.

Well - you're going to have to buy something, aren't you? You can't test without tools.

The CPU rarely dies unless severely overheated. If you didn't overheat it, it's probably the motherboard. As a matter of fact, it's most often the motherboard.

Look for leaking or bulging capacitors on the motherboard.

You could also take a look at the PSU. It mite be on its way out. Sometimes, one of the voltage rails will fail, leaving the other (on a rail-sharing PSU) or the others (on a non-rail-sharing PSU... the "better type" PSU) fully functional (fans spinning etc)and thereby giving the impression that all is well with the PSU, when in fact there is a problem.

As far as I know , a healthy MoBo should give one Beep to show you , she's okay .
By BIOS (beep) codes you can at least get an idea of what's wrong .
However these codes differ from BIOS producer ro BIOS producer .
Does that MB of yours have an AWARD BIOS or an AMI ?
    Please post more info .
Also in what particular moment did it start to misbehave ( any recent hardware changes , BIOS updates, etc ) ?
