Drivers for XP Pro
Hi
I'm trying to help out my father in law & earn a few brownie points. He has bought a Laptop 2nd hand a Advent 7030. Somehow he has managed to lose the drivers for many of the components (video, sound, ethernet card etc) the video does work but not to the right resolution. I have tried advents support site (advent is PC worlds own brand I think) and the usual places (driverguide, windriver) and used the USB port to update XP to the latest version but still no drivers
Any suggestions on where I could find them
Many thanks
Kev

"and used the USB port to update XP to the latest version but still no drivers"
do you mean that you've installed all your windows updates from windowsupdate.com? the USB part threw me off...perhaps its a USB cable modem...
try to download AIDA 32 and post back the specifics on what the type of hardware that you need drivers for is

Hmmm, now you have seen the super support that the Dixons Retail Group (PC World) has to offer :-)
From what I can see, you have the several options and that is to aquire replacement media disk from http://www.dsgrecovery.com where although they do not list your specific model number, it will be one of the generic family of 7xxx; call the support line for advice, prepare for some lengthy hanging on I guess; ask the guys at advent computers support@pcservicecall.co.uk for info.
I'd go for SiSoft's Sandra to interrogate the machine first, most of what is in there will be available at individual manufacturer's sites even down to synopsis trackpads. After getting the info, compare it with the hardware list at http://www.pcservicecall.co.uk/ under Advent laptops selecting each model until you find a fit (or as near as)

Thanks for your help
I have downloaded AIDA32 but it does not give me much info on the items for which I have no drivers
I have rang PC servicescall & they say that the Advent 7030 is not one of theirs & referred me to Hi Grade Computers who apparently build the laptop. They have offered to sell me a recovery disk for £25. My Father in Law is willing to pay this to sort the problem, however I know that he has messed with the system configuration (changed partition sizes etc) and on my own system if I change the configuration, the recover disk does not work (It checks that the system is in its original format)
Do you think that the disk will work or if it does not, that I will be able to search the disk for the drivers
THanks again
Kev
