    Looking for a new LCD

Looking for a new, 15" LCD.
Been searching new egg, googlegear, pricegrabber...

Looking to spend around $300 to $350...

I am looking for at least 350:1 contrast ratio, but, most importantly...it's gotta have DVI AND VGA connections.

I work on other PCs at my desk, (home) and...I use the current DVI connector. I hook up other PCs to the VGA connector...

Any good leads would be appreciated.

    Please..no Ebay...

well, whats this going to be for? if this is for gaming, then you are choosing unwisely. LCD technology has not been perfected yet. dont even believe those claims for faster refresh rates. they CANT compare with trinitron CRT tubes. i definitely recommend a crt. this way, you can get yourself a nice 19 in flat screen or a cornerstone 21 inch.

if you really NEED that LCD for looks, at a 350 range, 15 inch doesnt really do it. A big, silver 19inch moniter with great display will do better.
your request for DVI connector limits options...such as contrast, resolution, and refresh rate.
here is a list of what you are looking for. *NOTE* not all have 350:1 contrast, nor do they have exemplorary refresh/brightness.
    link

HOWEVER, I'd like you to know this, if you are planning to wait for alittle, oh one day, and 7 dollars, there IS this nice LCD display from albatron.
contrast ratio of 500:1, SXGA, vga/dvi like you wanted...it seems its just TAYLORED to your specifications! 5 stars all around from everyone

I hope you get this one.

    Couple of things, Alien.
I do play some games, but they represent about 30% of what I do...and, in my cramped area at home, I could use the real estate of an LCD. I currently have a 15", but...my girl is getting that, while she buys me a new one for my B-day...(today, as a matter of fact.)
We found a Sony at Best Buy, 17"inch...with the specs I want...except for DVI.

    But...this albatron sure looks nice.

The links you sent resulted in search pages at newegg...can you help there? We're looking to buy it by the end of the week.
I've seen albatron before, just don't know anything about their brand name...

    Much thanks!!

Ooohh...man. Just found it on ne.com...boy, that is perfect.

About 100 US $ cheaper than the Sony I was going to get...and, rated better. Too bad they're out of stock. I'll have to wait a couple of days for that one...almost seems too good to be true.

Any bad things about an albatron??

Found it here, in stock. For...only a few dollars more. Gonna wait a couple of days, only because I'd like to buy it from NewEgg...but, AJump has pretty good ratings at resellersratings.com, as well.

Thanks again for your help...I think we have a winner.

    heres the link again: here

albatron is nice. i havent heard complaints about albatron stuff here at newegg. heard alot about NEC (which i have. it sucks)

    newegg = free shipping.

well, it said it would be back in stock at 9/2/03. you might want to email newegg to see if they will get it in stock by the 7th. if not, just get it at where you found it.

    I really appreciate it...alien.
I was ready to spend about 500 + for a Sony...albeit it does look nicer...but the specs are the same.

And...the Sony doesn't have DVI, which wasn't critical...but I'd like to have it.

The Alb does!! Yep, they upped the availability to 9/7, and I signed up for an email alert. Only 11 bucks more from ajump, and they offer free ground shipping as well...and in stock.

Ajump has pretty good seller ratings, as well.

I was looking at NEC and Samsung, too. Thanks for your input there.

NEC eeeeeeEEW. i would never get ANOTHER NEC, well I'm probably going to get the 21". but thats the thing, NECs only good for midrange priced big moniters. nothing else. their LCDs are average, 17"15" crts are ****, but 21" crt is good. Sony actually makes the best 21"crt believe it or not, its $1000 tho. so yea.

Samsung, I used to like samsung, but all of a sudden they became this hotshot that got several good reviews and are upping their prices. The stuff is good, but if the prices keep climbing, im going to be mad.

Albatron always remains to be reasonable. One of their "mission statements." Good company. Makes awesome ti4200 card (ti4860 or 4680 whatever)

but go with the Albatron LCD. and email newegg. they email you back in about 3 hours.

I had two new emails when I got home...the reply from this thread...and an email from new Egg...that baby is in. I'll let you know what I think...when it gets here.

I have an asylum GeF4ce Ti4200...but think I'm gonna jump on the ATI 9800 pro soon...

Gonna get a good 550W True Control PSU, the 9800...and this LCD. And, I'm done for a while...

    Yeah right...

sapphire 9800NP save a hundred bucks. then download the flash mod, and automatically upgrade to 9800P

PSU, i would ask BPB about that on tech support. depends on what Proc. you have. if you have a AMD, then id go with fortron PSU. Just because it says 550w doesnt mean 550. you should know that.

Oh...I do on the PSU. The Antec 550W True Control lives up to it's specs, as rated by several reputable sources...also, I like the ability to adjust the three separate voltage rails manually through the 5 1/2 inch bay adapter...a nice finishing touch.

Heck, the Antec TruPower 480 actually rates out over at like 510W.

I'm just beating up my little true blue 350W with my drives, OCing, vid card. It's stable...but I think the 9800 would put it over the edge. Man...it's fast as heck!!...But, well enough is never really well enough when it comes to our breed.

I've heard mixed things on the sapphire...I'm not planning on buying the 9800 till Christmas time...so, we'll see how the pricing drops by then.
I'd rather go for built by ATI card. You think the Sapp is that good, huh?

I've heard good things about the Saph 9800. All the people that have flashed it to Pro rating don't have complaints. But, check out the video card forum for more info. There have been a lot of talk on the subject recently.

Hmmmm....SysOpts hasn't done me wrong yet...so I may have to save a buck or two..and do just that. Plus, with built by ATI cards drying up eventually...Sapphire might be the alternative.

Ok...while I'm on it...any reason not to buy the Non-Pro Sapphire OEM version?

For a 9800, at 196 bucks from New Egg...that's not too bad.

    Thoughts, guys?

erm, thats what we advised you to get. the non pro sapphire.
you can flash mod that into a 9800pro. hence, "save a buck or two." in this case $100+
