poll on radeon vs nvidia

which is better oer all radeon or nvidia but my main question is the 5900 better than the 9800 pro and dose having 256 mb instead of 128 make that big of a differ

Here we go again....

IMO the Radeon 9800 is the better card of the two, in most cases the pair are prettty much equal, though in some areas each has a marginal advantage. However for me the increased image quality of Ati, plus the fact i picked up a Sapphire r9800 np and modded it to a 9800 Pro saving myself one hundred quid on the price of a retail 9800Pro plays a big factor, also in this part of the world you will pay more for a FX5800 than you will a r9800.

Though the FX5900 is a good, fast card, i just dont really have much faith in Nvidia ATM im afraid and the 9800Pro seems to match it, if not beat it almost blow for bloe, and so, for me, it was time for a change.

As for the issue of 128mb v2 256mb. The only area there is a noticable difference is when playing games at extrmemly high resolutions and detail levels with high AA and AF settings. Here there is a marginal performance gain when using 256mb, however, at these settings the gameplay is usually so slow, that the added ram cant really do anything to make the FPS rate a playable one.

If i were you i would do what i did, get the much cheaper 9800np and do some modding

Both are great cards, but I decided to return my 5900 for an ATI all-In-wonder 9800 Pro,I love Nvidia, but I will not waist my money just cause I love a company, I spend my money on the better product at that moment, and at this moment ATI has the better one. Who knows, maybe in 4 months we will be saying how Nvidia cards are better then ATI.

Generally the two are roughly neck and neck until you turn all the eye candy on.

Once you set the Radeon to 6xAA/16xAF and the GeForce to 8xAA/8xAF (their respective maximum settings) you will see higher frame rates on the ATI card.

Don't let the lower sample rate bother you, ATI's gamma-corrected 6x AA is the best multi-sampling AA implementation out there, and looks much better than Nvidia's AA implementation at any setting.

I just bought me an All In Wonder 9800 Pro from newegg for $389, plus got a free hat

I was going for the 5900 Ultra, but I saw that the 5900 Ultra has weaker AA, a big part in my constant game play of GTA VC

I run a 9500 Pro at the moment (budget ) and I can't play a game without AA anymore, I've been spoiled.
