ok I just spoke to a guy from Nildram, and he told me I'm gona need the following:
2 Filters @ £10 each
RJ11 is it? not sure how much that costs.
He recommends an integrated modem/router @ about £75
NIC card in my other machine
but then, £22.99 in advance for the first month,
and about £50 for activation!!!!
Basically, I'm looking at nearly £200 to get setup... **** me, that's a lot of money... any ideas? I can probably work something out, but Jesus, that really is a lot....

If the filters and the modem are not part of the package, shop elsewhere.

Sorry Dont mean to bug you - but up where? The two items you recommended were a NIC and a router, I didnt see a modem recommendation.

I guess you missed this, hyborn.

The key is to be sure that they supply an Ethernet-capable modem. Do not accept a modem which is strictly USB. This way, you can use a router later.

too_much - would you please check Pipex to see if they include one? Otherwise, that seems fine. Still, instead of linking to the reviews, linking to the specs is a better idea. I had to fish for them.

Sorry, I did read that, I just took it as a reply to something else. My apologies.
That router looks a bit basic, but should do the job. Remember folks using BT, you need something that accepts PPPoA

Buying cheaper is often false economics. Full-speed service may include hardware and installation.
For instance, I can get AT&T dialup for $10/mo and a fee for anything over so many hours or I can get unlimited for $20/mo. Guess which often costs more in the end?

too_much, if you'd fill in your location in your Sysopt user profile, members in your area might respond with isp package info local to you!
Here, most home broadband deals come with filters and an ethernet modem in a package deal, mine was free for a one year commitment, and even came with a nic which is a network interface card (ethernet card). It's up to us to provide the router and networkong if we're using more than one computer.
And yes, the router logs onto the isp on the wan (wide area network) side. It also provides a dhcp (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server for the lan (local area network) side which will automatically assign ip addresses to each computer on the lan. The router will have detailed instructions on how to setup all of this.
I prefer a separate router, not integrated into the modem. I've had 5 different ISPs, due to them going out of business or better deals, in just over 5 years. My router has been on 4 of them, so I've not had to change my lan configuration!
Hope this helps
