Well with 64-Bit around the corner.....

Since 64-Bit is coming up soon, I was wondering what exactly will use the 64-bit technology anyway? I know the OS at first, but when will games and other apps acually require a 64-bit system? I know the realease of 64-bit will cause older 32-bit hardware to become cheaper, but will it be worth getting it if no new software can use it? Will 32-bit hardware work with 64-bit motherboards? Also will the next-gen of graphics cards require 64-bit hardware?

And most importantly: When is intel/amd exactly realeasing it anyway?

    Thanxs

Intel already has 64bit cpus called Itanium, but you would need to get a compatible OS.

what do you mean 32-bit hardware? it would just be the cpu and board that need to be 64-bit capable. the other components would be the same. there is no such thing as a 32-bit hdd versus a 64-bit hdd, for example. PCI express is the next big thing for video.

I don't think 32-bit will be any cheaper, but 64-bit optimized stuff will probably be more expensive.

64bit really isn't worth it just yet.

Ya it isn't worth it yet. Tho later on When everyone makes the move, all the programs will start to take advangtage of it. And 32 bit will be of the past.

Also Amd's CPu is backwards compatible with a 32 bit OS or was it 32 apps?/?

Thats an advantage it has over Intel. Plus all of Amd's 64 cpus are at a low clock speed right now. (1.4) i think? IT hasn't even reached 2 gHZ and its following close behind the 3 GHZ p4's.

And the Itaniums are Very Expensive, and aren't meant for the desktop market.
