    There's a number of different answers to that, but if I'm assuming correctly you mean something like this:

    It's when you instruct the computer using some sort of code to draw a visual image. For example, I rendered this image quite some time ago. The instructions to make this image are simply a small text file. But when told to render the image from that text file (using specific software) it made the image you seen.
