    old fujitsu hd

i have a friends old fujitsu hard drive here it doesnt have an os on it. and when i try to connect it with my maxtor hd with xp on it always reads as the master even tho its set up as cable select and when i try slave it does the same. then when i just plug his hard drive in an load up with a 98 bootdisk i cannot format it beacuse it doesnt recognise the drives on it so it then loads the diagnositc tools to c: ramdrive! how can i get around this? all i want to do is format it thanks.

    model number?

do you have one drive on the primary and one on the secondary ide? try that configuration.

you don't need a bootdisk to format if you're running winxp. just run diskmgmt.msc
