XP-Major freeze ups!
MB-Intel 850mv-P4 system
512 Rd ram
Rage pro 128 Vid card
It freezes up everywhere including Boot.
Run adware and dowloaded Proland Virus app. This is a music studio Pc and I really dont like the Virus apps. Everything checked OK.
I Keep turning off and re-booting usually multiple times. Most times have to hit last known good config. Wont do it in safe mode. Safe mode always starts up and lists files then freezes up? This includes all safe modes.
Have tried 2 system restores including one restore at 2 months old. That one lasted the longest at about 5 minutes.
Ive noticed a lot of freeze ups on this BBS board with XP. One stated he fixed it with a bios upgrade which I find hard to believe from the system specs.
Im not worried about the audio as I have two drives. Its just the hardware and all my Recording apps I would have to re-install if I do a clean install
BTW. I installed Netscrape 7 about a week before this started. Also the Aim.
Anyone have any Ideas? Thanks!

Does this work with Rd-Ram?
Im on this same computer now. It booted Ok this time and Ive been on it for about 10 Minutes. I think ill keep it on and run some audio for as long as I can to see if its a heating problem. I dont think it is but I was on it for about 2 hrs this morning then shut down and went back about an hour later and it started freezing again.
Is there any type of log file on XP that would coincide with CPU temperature and time of shut down?

Kaameehameeehaaa!
yes it works for Rambus RAM also
and no whatever error logs you find in XP will not talk about Temperature
try running SPEED FAN when you are running a 3D game
and see how hot it goes

Well this time it lasted about an hour and a half. Ill run this mem check if it doesnt freeze up.
As far as Speed Fan I dont have games on this system. Its strictly audio. Ill be happy if its a software problem!

Since the issues occur both in real mode and safe mode you need to rule out bad ram.
If the ram tests good , I would do a Repair Install so you can keep your existing applications and settings intact. Its painless.
