USB Video Capture Device: DIY Alternative?

Does anyone know how to build a Composite Video capture device for USB?

I have a video camera that has PAL composite out, and I was wondering if it was possible to make my own.

    Any ideas?

    Thx.

I would recommend the card that I'm running, the Pinnacle Studio PCTV Pro. It does vid capture very well, and also contains a cable ready TV tuner. Oh, it's a PCI card.

Thx for the help, but I would like to build it myself; I'm in Australia and cant order stuff from overseas (I dont have a credit card either) and also want to have the satisfaction of knowing that I've built it myself.

Surely you could import said device cheaper than building it. Though if you insist, you will first need to read up on Digital-to-Analog conversion technology, particularly on digital transistor ciruit theory. Then you will need to design and fabricate your own DAC chipset from the ground up, not just solder a series of components to a PCB. Hope you have some wafer-based lithography etching and assembly machinery at your house.

I tend to believe I'm decent with PC hardware theory, but I wouldn't even try to undertake this project.

I was thinking that someone may have already done it, and could offer me some advice.

Seeing as how exspensive the adapters are here, it would be MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper to get one imported, and so much easier too.

    *sigh*

Oh well. I probably may as well get a USB Web cam or something.

    Thanks for your help!
