Help with RAM on new MB.

I just purchased a new Motherboard CPU combo from Tiger. I got the XFX MACH 4 KT33BV motherboard with the Athlon XP 2200 Processor. Now I need to purchase some RAM. The specs for memory are: Three 184 pin slots - DDR266/DDR333 SDRAM - Up to 3GB. Being that the 1 gig chips are so expensive, I want to put in 3x of the 512 chips. My question is:

1) Being that this is an Athlon, does it require CAS 2 type memory, or can I get the cheap CAS 3 type?

2) I've heard talk about single side DDR and double side DDR. What is better and what do I want? I don't plan to overclock, much if at all.

3) Should I opt for more than PC2100 or PC2700?

I'm running Windows 2000 and do some heavy gaming and video editing. Any suggestions?

I was on the Crucial Memory web site and there is another option for 512 RAM. Do I want ECC or Non-Parity? Is one better than the other?

If you are not planning on OverClocking your CPU, then by all means go with the CAS 3.0 double-sided non-ECC type memory!
It is all that you'd ever need for now. That would be the normal type of RAM that your particular should run on without any problems!

In the event that you'd want to run ECC type memory, then I would suggest you check your Motherboard Manual to see if the BIOS and chipset supports ECC type DIMMs! Otherwise, you'd be buying something that won't be useful. Hope that the info helps! Good luck.

Cheap memory modules can cause you alot of grief down the road.


Buy quality memory.

Corsair, kingston, kingmax, Crucial....

Your best bet is 1 stick of 512mb pc2700 DDR-SDRAM

Running more than 1 can also cause you problems and besides, you would most likely never see any benifet from running more than 512mb of memory.

you don't need ecc ram unless you're running a server or something.
