would like advice on a video card
I'm sketching out a new system, and would like advice on a video card for it. What is planned is:
GigaByte ga-7vaxp--HAS 2X\4X\8X AGP
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
512Mb PC2700 DDR333MHz Corsair
WILL TRANSFER FROM PRESENT PC:
CD-ROM 52x
CD-RW
60Gb HD
40Gb HD
CURRENT CARD: ELSA Gladiac 511 NVidia GeForce 2 MX-400; 64MB SDR; AGP4X
EDIT:The mobo listed above does not support 3.3V cards, only 1.5V. Can someone tell me which Voltage my ELSA GLADIAC is? The ELSA website sux, no info there.
Would like to upgrade vid card, if real improvement can be gained from a 8x for approx. $75 dollars. Please advise on 8x vid cards in this price range. Or would present vid card be best used til prices drop 90%, or an unknown rich uncle dies & leaves me a fortune? :-p thx
VIA i2K-KT133s/686A; VIA 8363 chipset, sockett A
Mobo: PROCOMP BVK1M Ver. 1.0
CPU: 800MHz AMD DURON

I went from a GF@mx to a radeon 9100 128 mb and am happy with the results. It's not the latest & greatest but for reasonable gaming and around $80 a nice card .
The voltage should be ok they have diff slot sizes.

Just noticed your RAM, try benchmarking with and without the 128 of pc100, it might be slowing down the pc133.

A stick of pc100 ram will slow the pc133 rams down to pc100. You're better off without the pc100.
As for the vid card. I don't think you're gonna find a good AGP 8x for $75. from a reputable company.

Right now all the RAM is running at PC100.
If you remove the PC100 you will be able to set it to PC133.
You should get a perfomance boost.

Whoops! soory about that--i used part of a outdated sys spec file by mistake. Current spec sheet shows PC100 was removed.
Can someone tell me which Voltage my ELSA GLADIAC is? ELSA Gladiac 511 NVidia GeForce 2 MX-400; 64MB SDR; AGP4X . Either 3.3V or 1.5V. Know of any forums for GeForce fanantics, or any place where people might know?

Dunno about the voltage deal. If I remember correctly, the whole 1.5 vs 3.3 voltage deal is a AGP 3.0 spec. In other words, AGP 3.0 can run cards in either 4x or 8x, but not 2x. Your card is 2x/4x if I remember right. Regardless, it sucks and you need a new card, depending on what or if you play games.

Here is a list of 8x cards at newegg and their prices. Any 5200 is leaps and bounds ahead of a gf2 mx anything. It would fill your needs for now at $90.
Good luck

I would go for and Gforce FX5200 if your budget can get you that.
