New Motherboard, Is it ne good?
Hi everyone,
i and looking to upgrade my computer which is about a year and a half old. the current setup is:
AMD Althlon 1.4GHz
Gigabyte GA-7VTX Motherboard
512MB DDR PC2100
64MB Geforce 2 400MX
The reason for my upgrade is that it is struggling on most games and on 3D Benchmark 2001SE its is only scoring about 2100 points.
I am lookin to upgrade the Motherboard, graphics Card and the Processor.
I was looking at the Asus A7V8X-X Motherboard and get the option without onboard sound and graphics, just onboard networking. But is this ne good? or is there a better 1 on the market. i am looking to buy all well known brands rather then the cheaper alternatives that are not as good.
The Graphics Card i was looking for something like a Geforce 4 Ti 4800 128MB, either made by Creative, Asus or MSI, which of these is the better 1 or is there another 1 on the market that is better? Also i have heard that the TI 4200 are quite good for their cost is this true?
AS for the processor i am just looking for wot i can get for about £150 has ne 1 got ne websites that they can recommend for buying hardware? i have already tryed ,dabs, komplett and ebuyer which all seem to have good prices for hardware.
Also for the processor i was wondering if i get say a 2500XP+ CPU, for the heatsink and fan is it a good idea to get 1 that is a couple higher? i.e for a 2500XP+ CPU get a 2800XP+ heat sink and fan?
Thanks For Your Time And Help

Kaameehameeehaaa!
Just upgrading ONLY the motherboard will not help
if you want a better 3D Bench
is better to get a new ATI Radeon 9800 Pro instead
or at least a ATI 9500 Pro for half price
your CPU+Mobo is good enough

You shouldn't update all at once, it might be a waste of money. Identify the worst bottleneck (the gfx card I'd say), replace that, repeat until you like the performance or run out of money.

The current cream of the crop would be:
Asus a7n8x Deluxe or Epox 8rda+ motherboard.
Athlon XP2500+
Radeon 9500 Pro gfx
although the ti4200 is a good card for the money its beggining a descent into old age and i wouldnt expect it to last much longer in terms of high detail and state of the art gaming, however it does overclock well. The r9500 would be a much more future proof option and is quite nicely priced
