Details on OEM CDRW manufacturers?
Can anybody say somethin on who are the oem cdrw makers for most brands like Samsung,HP...etc?
I was just curious after somewhere i read about Sony using Liteon drives.
Sometime back i had also heard that Samsung used to make cdrw drives for HP....just to confirm it is that true?
and what about Asus,Teac,Plextor and MSI to name a few..do these guys also outsource and just put their name tag on the drives?
thanx for all inputs.

While the laser and transport mechanisms are made by a handfull of companies, the circuitry, firmware and enclosures are usually either made by the vendor or customizations are ordered from the laser/transport maker.
It's really hard to determine the maker of these drives - they are often a hodge-podge of parts. I'm sure that Toshiba, Pioneer, Lite-On and Yamaha are in-house drives.

well when i spent some time in a major electronics retail chain, i noticed that the HP computers were using drives by Lite On, LG, and Teac
they use what is available i guess

Believe msi uses one of the L manuf. which is good since they do work.
