    Lovegate worm

Does anyone know about the Lovegate worm? AVG tells me that I have that worm, and that it had removed it, but it keeps coming back, anc all sorts of things are misbehaving: missing DLLs, cannot reboot, etc.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

Get the Lovegate Removal Tool from Symantec.

Then get a real A/V Program.

At the risk of igniting a religious war, what would you consider a REAL A/V program?

    NSW 2003 PRO $9.35
I've never read an A/V review that didn't rank Norton #1.
AVG is, no doubt, the best choice in freeware.

I will never put Norton System Works on another computer. It has caused way too many problems. (Ironically, the Norton Protected Trash causes a misreported file size that causes Norton Ghost to hang every time I clone my XP box. C'mon guys, these are both Norton products.) Norton AntiVirus is fine, but the newer versions of Cleansweep and Utilities have caused far more problems for me than they have prevented or fixed.

I like AntiVir. Not much to look at, but it does the job. It's free, regulary updated and German - must be efficient

Try disabling system restore prior to cleaning your system with avg. After you have cleaned the system run a scan again and if it comes up clean, then you can enable system restore.
Me personally I don't bother with system restore as it eats up resources. I just back up manually.

I have to agree with FijiJohn on the Norton Recycle Bin. The first thing I do after installing NSW is right click on the NRB and disable Norton Protection. I'm not sure what it's good for. It seems like some kind of vestigial organ.

I had Windows ME system that got a variant of Opaserv. The virus did not do Damage because AVG prevented it. I scanned the system several times and always came up with the virus. System restore kept backing up the virus so it was hard to get rid of.

With ME you must first turn off System Restore (and lose all your previous restore points), then scan for viruses and remove them, then turn restore back on.
