    Help w D-link router 604

This is a silly problem, but mine nonetheless. My D-link 604 router cannot be reset. Yes I know the D-link people claim that inserting a paperclip in the reset and pressing for 10 seconds should do the trick, but this doesn't work.

Twice, I have been able to access the D-link setup with the default admin password. If I immediately change the password (as one should), and click on save, the setup freezes and then tells me that I am not authorized to enter the setup. Now I can't reset the router and start over.

Is there another trick except the paperclip? Has anyone else had this problem?

    Smash it with a hammer.

    =)

    Have you updated the firmware?

Yes I updated the firmware from the d-link site. I've done all the unplugging, ip- renewal and rebooting and resetting with the famous paperclip. I'll try the hammer next...

    Thanks, though!

Exactly how are you doing the paperclip trick? In my D-Link 704P, I insert the clip, unpower the router for 10 seconds (clip still inserted), repower it (still holding the clip in) and wait for the lights to do their cycle. I have not updated the firmware. I have a feeling that may have been your problem, it may have gone wrong.

I've tried all the paperclip varieties:

    before updating firmware:
*insert clip w power on for 10 s. Try to access setup.
*insert clip w power off for 10 s. Try to access setup.
*insert clip w power on for 10 s, then turn power off for 20 s, then turn it on again with clip still inserted. Try to access setup.
*insert clip w power off etc etc

    after updating firmware:
    see above.

I shut down the whole system last night and will leave it off. Perhaps the router changes its mind.

Try using a different browser to set up the router:

Thanks for the tip - this was a good and easy-to-use browser. Unfortunately it didn't solve my problem with the router. Maybe I'll try different sizes of paperclips now...

Yes going back to the store does seem the only option by now, doesn't it? Do you mean that you couldn't reset yours either, or that you know that it can't be reset? Either way,...
