There are only usually two LED lights on the front of the case - the IDE drive LED and the power-on LED.

So, it would appear as if the hard disk drive (HDD) has failed.

Try opening the case and removing the cables and then replacing them to the hard drive.

    HDD Diagnostic utilities
Most of the HDD manufacturers (Seagate, Maxtor, Western Digital, etc.) provide a diagnostic utility that can be used to diagnose problems with their drives from their websites.

But note well that if such a utility is used on a faulty system (suffering from bad RAM, an inadequate power supply unit, a faulty motherboard, etc.) it could produce unreliable results.

    Three third-party HDD-testing utilities

    Adenix S.M.A.R.T. Indicator - http://www.adenix.net/smart/indicator.html

    Active Smart - http://www.ariolic.com/

    Drive Health - http://www.helexis.com/

If none of those utilities work, I would either try using another HDD from another computer, or buy a new one.

Thanks have now refitted the small fan and the pc booted up when I pressed f5 . On the screen I am getting
    CMOS Checksum error... defaults loaded
Alos prograi/aol7 1.0/idb/main idx allocation errors.
When I tried to restore original files it says... your program caused a divided overflow error.
managed to boot to windows but the screen goes blank when I click on a icon.

Sounds like that CMOS battery or the memory is going south on you! You could check the voltage level of the battery with a DMM (Digital Multi Meter), it should register at about 3.0v or higher, preferrably higher! If below 3.0v, then that is part of the problem! Your memory sounds like it might be faltering also unless it is the power supply unit that is faltering. Just some of the things to check out! Good luck.

Small fan? Do you mean the CPU fan? Is it an Athlon or Pentium?

It's probably a good idea to replace the CPU fan.
