    computer wont boot up

I am really new to computers. The other night I was downloading music from the internet, I left this for about 3-4 hours without going to check it. When I returned the computer screen was black, I moved the mouse and a self test thing come up on the screen. I found that the computer had froze on me. I turned off the computer with the boot up button like i have done in the past and tried to restart the computer. I got nothing. Please, please help me, I am an amateur at computers and don't understand all the jargon that they entail. Hope to hear from someone really soon. Oh by the way this is being typed on another computer. lol.

Try unplugging the computer power cord for 5 mins. and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Does the monitor turn on at all? Any lights on the computer or monitor? Any fans running? Etc.

It probably wouldn't make any difference if you took out the battery you would just loose all your settings and have to reset everything. If you have access to another video card then try removing the one that is in the computer and replace it with another one and see if it will boot on up. Then go from there.
