To read the contents of another HD with WIN 98 SE

I have got a HD from another PC that died with WIN 98 SE and all my files in it, and I want to install it in another machine running 98 SE, so I can access all the data.
    Can it be done ?
    If so, how ?

    Thanks for your input

Assuming the drive is good, jumper the 2nd. drive as a slave (should be jumper settings diagram on drive) and master the 1st. drive. When booting go into BIOS and assure that the drive is detected. If you have more than one partition on your 1st. drive I believe that the second drive will end up being drive D as it has an primary partition on it.

OK, I need to go through it slowlly, because i don't know much about it.

Lets see if I at least get the idea to start off with.

If I hold "Del" while booting, it will take me to BIOS and there I can set the second HD as a slave.
I've only got one partition in each of the HDs.

Then I'll reboot and should be able to access the second HD, is this right ?

    Thanks

Right. In your BIOS navigate to your IDE controllers and if the slave is not detected already choose the option for "auto". The drive should then be detected. You'll know your in the right place when you see your master drive listed. The next one down is where your slave should be.

Most harddrives have jumpers on the cable end that have to be set to determine master or slave. There will be a schematic on the drive

Does this mean you were able to "read" the Drive?

    Yes

It's all up and running fine. I can access all files.
To be honest, I don't realy know exactly, how I did the BIOS thing, but it works.
I had to set the HD pin to its original position, "Master (Factury default)".
It still boots from its original HD, which is how I wanted it.

    Good job guys.
