    Motherboard Driver questions

    Are drivers for mobos like BIOS only install if have to or are they easier to install and should do right away?

    It is essential with some chipsets like VIA that you install the drivers from your motherboard set-up cd BEFORE you install any other devices or drivers, even the video drivers. You will find less problems with irq conflicts etc. if you install as per directed by the manual.

Different chipsets use different GARTs (Graphics Address Remapping Table) to map system RAM for video. AGP requires a properly installed GART, so if you don't install the chipset drivers before the video, you may have corruption issues.

    The other drivers generally support the IDE devices and then sound or LAN. IDE drivers usually provide more of a performance than stability benefit, but sometimes benefit stability too.

    Yes, install the drivers right after installing the OS. If you didn't, start over.
