Win 98se shut downs on the net

Hi there. The system i am having trouble with is a pentium 2 233mhz with 64 meg ram , 2.1 hard drive running win 98se.The system was running perfectly until i fitted a 56k external modem and connected it to the internet. While on the net the whole system shuts down and restarts every now and then. While its restarting it goes thru the scan at start up , the one that happens when its been turned off incorrectly. I had exployer 6.0 on it and have now gone back to internet exployer 5.5 but no different. The system has just been reformatted and set up .Can anyone give me any ideas?

go to the modem manufacturer site and check to see if you have the latest drivers.if not get the latest driver and install it.if that doesnt fix the prob uninstall the modem and its driver, then reinstall with the latest one.

    cheers

I never could get Win98SE to run well with less than 128MB RAM. Any possible way you could get another 64 in your PC?

I have had this same issue before and it turned out that the ISP didn't like the modem. After I changed out modems worked fine.
