I'll admit it, I'm a car nut. I love cars, I love watching them, I love hearing them and I love driving them (wow, an all-rounder!).
Anyway, does anyone know of a site which has lots of car movies, not for any particular brand...i.e. cars going round race tracks (not too keen on the street racing vids - they always happen at night )....
The only one I know of at the mo is http://carfreaks.b0nk.net and I've got most of them (very fast connection at Uni )
I am obviously a lot older than you considering your bio indicates you are a student. I started building hot rods when I was 12 in Calif. and have never drifted very far from the sport. I have raced everything from motorcycles, boats, and every kind of car you can think of. Truly my lifes passion. Coming from GB you are probably not too familiar with American racing, drag racing in particular. I have held national records in D Gas and B modified production in the late 60´s. Have raced stock cars for 15 years, midgets and sprint cars also during that period. My favorite cars to race are the dirt track Sprint Cars. 1400 pounds and 800 horsepower, AWESOME.
Incidently the 10 time world champion in the Funny car division is my cousin, John Force. The greatest car movie ever made was Bullitt with Steve McQueen. Good old American Iron racing for their lives.

I would love to get into racing, but I've never really been wealthy enough Christ I drive a diesel - non turbo which gets an impressive 16sec 0-60, 70hp - European hp, 90 lbft, it doesn't even hit the tun! Although I used to drive a Volvo 440GLE injection, POOH, 0-60 in 8secs, but the power, the gearing (ahem, ahem 80mph in third!) ****. I would to have that car back (why is it gone? A foreign (well he wasn't from Newcastle) drunk bloke was speeding, jumped the roundabout I was on and hit the front left wing at 40mph twisting the entire chasis and writing the car off). My true fasination is with the Mini (a bit too small for my 6ft frame)and the Ford Mustang (I love the Shelby GT500).
I already have Bullit, it aint as good as suggested, well maybe the squence was just the filming of it was poor. Fast & Furious, Gone in 60 seconds (better than F&F), The Italian Job (the best movie)...I love em all.
One assumes that your post is a bit of a brag...Well, maybe just a proud older man (you gotta be if you held records in the 60's). I wouldn't care, the number of times I have tried to get into racing, everytime failing due to finance I might get there one day. Lol, when I turned 17 @ 08:01 I was driving on roads officially, insurance stated at 08:00! If you wonder about my abilites, I raced for the first time on karts last year against my dad, and two mates (one drives and hold my passion, the other doesn't drive yet), I beat them on every lap and ran rings around them! They refuse to go with me now Just met a guy from Finland who reckons he is quite good - just waiting for some spare money and then I'll show him!
At the moment I am getting my *** into gear asking about computing in motorsport...I am good with computers and love cars...makes a logical connection computers are in cars Still, thats not my true passion but if it gets me close.
There is awide open door for you in the computer aided racing scene. Good Luck!

U been keeing up with the WRC stefan? McRae has impressed me considering his recent mediocrity, lookign fwd to the next stage.
As for car movies, you cant beat some good ol 70's cop style car chases, Starsky + Hutch and Dirty Harry beign prime examples. The italian job is classic, got the special edition on VHS. Bullit is good for its age butdont hold up no more really, shame
Keeping up with the Rally, em yes! Kinda cool, it's the Citroen's that impress me more, I mean, my car doesn't drive like that - I've tried! Looks as is Gronholm will have a fight, but not struggle that hard really...
On another note, me and a few mates are trying to organise a road trip to Wales to get the Rally of Great Britain (em, you mean Rally of Wales then ), and my sis & brother-in-law are buying a convertible (saab jobie) to drive down to Monte Carlo in the summer to go on the stages!
On money side of things, how could I make sacrifices when I had nothing to sacrifice? Now I do, but it's too late for me I guess - the little kids have too much experience and direction - I don't have the time nor money to start Comeon, I'm already £2500 in debt to my country - that'll increase to £12000 ish in three years

Getting ridiculous, theres a theory around college that because A Levels are getting so much easier (in theory no one should fail at all by 2005 or sumink) theyre raising the price of higher ed to prevent many from going to uni and prevent an out break of over-qualification on the job market, meaning there would be a reduced working class and an overly competetive middle/upper class work environment.
Anyway, back to car flicks, vanishing point is on saturday night on ITV, dunno what its liek, never seen it myself, oh and the classic Dirty Harry is on Channel 5 @ 9pm tonight
The French Connection had a pretty good chase scene. I think the car was chasing an elevated train in Chicago. I havent seen it in years it might be lame by todays standards.
Billforce, I'd love the one you posted,, as well as something fast. I was an auto tech for 20yrs. professionally. Now I do my work at home, and only for a few. I love cars of all types, but the old ones still get me going. Never raced on a track but was a street rodder for many years. Find a piece of junk, make it go as fast as ya can.
Bullitt is a great film, and I love the New version of Gone in 60, I've seen them both, the first one leaves alot to be desired. Hmmm, what other ones are there????

My drag race car was a 1953 Henry J. Had a 308 in. (destroked 327) chevy from a dragster in it. B&M Hydro, shifted at 12,000 rpm. Had stored for 18 years, then took it out and put it on the street. Fun ride.
